Live weight... how?

I totally get that dressed weight is about 2/3 live weight but how do you figure out live weight? I want birds that are 1-1.25 lbs for Thanksgiving, so they need to weigh 1.5 - 1.75 live.

You need a scale. I use a digital one and I do have a hanging scale but it won't register a small weight like 1lbs.

LOL! Well, sure, I need a scale, but I keep imagining the chicken trying to walk off... HOW do you hold it still to weigh it?

Use a deep basket.

Try using a light weight potato sack. Put your bird in that then weigh your bird. Then subtract the weight of the potato sack from the weight of the bird with the potato sack. Then this number will be your final weght!
