It’s been awhile since I had teenaged boy quail. At least they aren’t hard to sex! I think they need to go in the freezer. My last hatch was all hens, so much quieter.

I didn't realize that.

When I finally get around to raising some, we've got an aviary for our parrots they could be in, so they could go outside.

Feather sexing about 4 weeks, crowing (with supplemental lighting) starts around 4 weeks and is a major nuisance at 5! My hens start laying week 5 on a 30 percent protein starter or week 7 on a 21 percent protein layer feed. Once they start laying they get all floppy and hemorrhoidy in the vent so are a bit easier to sex. Otherwise I just hang out with them and band anybody who crows. A mature adult is easy to vent sex but teenagers are tough.
