I have 5 ducks about 9 weeks old. They’ve always all stayed very close together. Lately one particular one isn’t hanging with the other 4. Is this normal or should I be concerned? It seems healthy otherwise.
Thanks!

Is it possible that the other ducks are picking on the loner duck? They could not want to hang out with their flockmates for that reason.

All my ducks have been individuals in their personalities, and each one has had a different comfort level regarding how far they want to get from their flockmates. As they got older they seem to be more independent - but for my ducks it was older than yours.

Also, birds are really good at hiding their illnesses. My sick duck hung back from her flock. But she was very ill at this point with obvious symptoms. Still, I though it was worth mentioning.

I think it really depends. Sometimes when they're not feeling well they will go off on their own. I also have "Yellow" who is one of my hens that prefers her independence. She started to get that way around 2 months and has been like that ever since. She does like her two sisters and a hen that was dropped off around the same time, but she has never liked any drakes and avoided the large crowds lol
