I'm so sorry you lost all five of the others! I hope sweet Liv continues to be a little fighter!

I️ have put a feather duster in and as long as the light is off she stays put and stays quiet. I️ really hope she can stay strong until I️ can get more, until then I️ think she’ll have to stick in my pocket for a bit throughout the day. I’m just worried that she’ll be so imprinted that the other chicks won’t make her much happier. At what age do chicks start regulating their temps? She seems to be surprisingly good at keeping herself warm in my pocket, despite not having direct skin contact. I️ have a hoodie that I️ altered from a pocket to a pouch a few years ago, I️ guess I️ am finally putting it to good use.I don't know what the safety precautions on your brooder heater are, but depending on what they are, you could put something feathery like a clean feather duster or a feather boa under the brooder heater to encourage her to snuggle into it. I wonder if anybody's made a happy chick audio track that you could play for her (I have no idea if this would calm her down--just a wild idea!).
If you do have a heat lamp lying around and can set it up securely, she might do best under it until you can get her companions if she's refusing to go under your brooder heater. Chicks love light and she may be more attracted to it.
Ok that makes sense! I️ use a Producer’s Pride Brooder and Coop Heater from TSC. I️ need to raise it to level 2, I️ read the instructions and it may be too hot right now. That could be why she doesn’t want to go under it. The brooder mode works really well and I’m planning to use the heater mode next winter for my wooden brooder that I️ keep quail in.She needs about 95 degrees of heat in her first week, which she might be getting close to in your pocket (you know how a piece of chocolate melts if you have it in your jeans pocket?). She won’t be able to regulate her own body temperature until she has a complete set of adult feathers, which will take several weeks. Each week you can reduce the ambient temperature by about five degrees.
Out of curiosity, what kind of brooder heater do you have?
Lol! She makes the tiniest chirps when she is in my pocket. I️t makes me so sad to hear her cry when I’m out of site. I️ gotta say, it’s definitely challenging to keep her in my hoodie. I️ have to do the pregnancy squat anytime I️ try to pick something up off the floor.Maybe use a tiny stuffed animal as a friend..... of course chick in the pocket is so much better
I might have to do that if 1 of the 2 still remaining passes... not sure how my work will feel about that lol
Ya it seems to be working pretty good! Tonight will be down to 20F so I’m a bit concerned it won’t work when it’s that chilly. I’m probably going to set the heat lamp up too, just in case.I'm going to do that with the heater too, lower on one side as this morning 1 was closer to the outer end.
This way they can adjust themselves.
My 2 are I side, not outside so the outside temp won't matter for me.Ya it seems to be working pretty good! Tonight will be down to 20F so I’m a bit concerned it won’t work when it’s that chilly. I’m probably going to set the heat lamp up too, just in case.
