local Fire Dept sign says our fire risk is between "High" & "Extreme"

I'd call the fire dept and the sheriff. If they're saying that the fire risk is that high i'm sure there's a burning ban. I'm a volunteer fire fighter myself and in our county you must call the 911 center before you burn anything. If you don't and a fire dept get paged out it's a $500 dollar bill, when where not in a burning ban, it's $1000 if we are. So if they start another one before you get ahold of the proper people just Dial 911

After living through 3 forest fires while living in Cali, I would not hesitate to call the FD & PD.
I am slightly puzzled. If it's 10y.o. lighting the fires, who is driving the trucks that pushed the brush?
If not the kids, then somebody more adult was there & they will be in more trouble than the kids.
Next fire you see, call the PD. They will have fun writing tickets to all involved.

No more fires yet, but we've had thunderstorms each night. I'm waiting for Friday - they tend to like to do weekend bonfires.....

I must agree with everyone to call the FD and PD. If you are in a burn ban its a no-no. And they will respond if there is one or let you know if there is not. Here in Ok we had burn bans for the last several years. It was a HUGE!! fine for starting fires and possible jail time. No problems this year as we are 9 inches above normal for rainfall and drowning. Your t-storms should help a little with the fire danger. Good luck. Hope this gets resolved soon.

If it happens mostly on weekends, I would say you have more than 10y.o. kids there. Sounds more like a teenage party to me. Definitly call the PD & FD. That's all you need is for a bunch of drunken/doped up teens lighting bon fires. I'd be down there with the shotgun, pumping rocksalt into their ignorant backsides!!:thun

If you are at all cordial with your neighbors I'd say talk to them and at least suggest the fires be lit earlier in the evening, under parental control, with appropriate safety measures, not during a burn ban, and away from your property. If that doesn't work I would call an insurance company and find out what happens if you set a fire on your porperty that burns down your neighbors house. I bet that answer would make them sit up! If your not comfortable talking to them, or they are non-responsive, I'd call the FD and PD. And do it before the fire gets too big, b/c once it gets loose it is becomes very difficult, time consuming and dangerous to put out. Especially at night. It is unbelievable how fast these things spread in dry weather (thank goodness for your recent rain).

I'm a volunteer FF and, unfortunately, in my district, we don't fine people. Then again, we've never had anyone who re-lit a fire after being told to put it out. Even if you don't want to report them, you can call and find out what your laws are and what the FD can do. Another course is to go to your Town Board (or whatever municiple gov't you have) and see if they are violating any laws.

Good luck!
