Hi Texans,

This post caught my eye:

https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...t-wholesale-prices-in-phoenix-az-arizona-area

Sometimes I get really frustrated with the feed available. I thought I had my feeding dilemma solved -- but nope, NOT.

I just bought 50# of Flock Raiser (Purina) from TSC. both reputable companies. TSC said I could return if I was dissatisfied, and I asked at checkout because there was some powder on the outside of the sack. Unfortunately I misplaced my cash register receipt-

The feed is nasty. I think it will go straight to the compost heap. -- I couldn't find a date on the pkg.

The previous 50# I had bought of the same feed at the same TSC was fine. (This spoiled sack has probably been sitting there since my previous purchase...or..they fumigated and never removed the feed or something)--

I check feed at a couple of places around here...they either have purina or some similar - have medicated when I don't want medicated...or have low protein, low calcium. I found some Full-O-Pep pullet feed - low calcium...so I'm mixing that with some supplements for now....

I think the TSC I used has low volume sales so the sacks sit a long time. It is so frustrating that the health of the flock depends on the quality of the feed, and to say the least the quality and freshness is very spotty. Ugh. This bag I could tell -- a powdery dust is covering the bag and it is increasing and it smells --- like a disinfectant or something.

Where do you all buy your feed, what brand do you get, and are you satisfied with the feed?? Thanks for any insight.

ChicKat,

I'm using Coyote Creek and am happy with it so far. That said, my girls only switched from the starter to the developer a couple of weeks ago. The mill is in Elgin and it looks like there's one feed store in SA that carries it. http://coyotecreekfarm.org/mill/feed-stores/

Best,
Marty
Thanks Marty-----

I'm once again struggling to get the right feed...maybe this will lead me to a better source...I appreciate your answer a lot!

South side of san antonio there is a feed store called Livengood Feed, also there is another store called Rudy's Feed Store. I use both, depends on what I am buying. For the Layer Pellet 20%, and Scratch I go to Livengoods, for my B.O.S.S, OATS, Flock Raiser, I go to Rudy's....

The south side of San Antonio also has Moore's Feed Store, which carries Jupe feeds. I've been happy with Jupe.

We use coyote creek organic, we usually get it on our day trips to austin, but my husband was told by one of the guys at moores feed store that they could special order it for us....
