Local Hatcheries/ Breeders? SE North Carolina Area

I ended up ordering from McMurray also, Feb 11th I get the 10 birds I wanted then one of those egg laying assortments that I can sell on Craigslist after they start laying. Maybe keep a few favorites.
guessing you got straight run? i ordered females only but we all know how that could turn out. i think i unfortunately have one cockerel at least. Not exactly wanting to have to cull one of my hand raised socialized pet chickens. It is what it is i guess....
hey would you be interested in a beautiful hand raised, organic fed, friendly barred rock cockerel? I thought about rehoming him but i dont want him to go to a home that would either 1. just slaughter him for meat, anyway. or 2. even worse- get him involved in some sick cockfighting ring :hmm:hmm

anyways, was worth the effort to ask. Lemme know! :frow:bun

omg:thumbsup i just saw this! myrtle grove or monkey junction area?! i drive by a ladys house where she advertises fresh eggs (off of CB road) and am always thinking about stopping in and saying hello to a fellow chicken enthusiast, but then thinking i dont want to be creepy! LOL :wee:wee
I don’t know that person but have seen the sign! Also there’s a person off of Myrtle grove road who also has a sign out selling eggs.

There are a lot of chicken keepers off Myrtle Grove.
One lady I’ve met and her set up is incredible. Her husband builds everything that she can dream up.

I used to be tempted to stop by random places but I’ve learned so much about biosecurity over the past few years that now, I’m not willing to take a chance.

I would only go if I knew how the person handles their flock and where they get their birds from.

oh no, i totally get the biosecurity thing. I didnt have chickens yet at the time, tho. I had chickens when i was still up in washington, but they got killed by coyotes, so i just started over a new flock once i got a home down here and all settled. Definitely creating a predator proof enclosure for my babies now, its going to be fort knox!!! I was thinking about making a chicken keeper meetup for the area, but i think it cost monies :( :( :(
one where we could meet somewhere and still maintain that biosecurity on our properties. or take the correct steps to do so (i hear there are "ways"). maybe i will, who knows. we chicken people need to stick together. everyone i meet down here thinks im crazy because they dont get the whole chicken thing :idunno:confused:

but still leaves me just a friendless. oh well. at least i have my chickens! :celebrate:bun:celebrate:bun

There’s a fb page called coastal cluck coops that’s supposed to be our area but it’s mostly inactive.
They apparently used to have an annual coop tour around town but haven’t done it in a couple of years. 2016.
Also one called barnyards by the sea. (Although I don’t know anyone on there either!)
I’ll be your local chicken friend. Just message me if you need anything.

WOOO! im so excited i just made a new friend! :ya

I'm not quite as far coastal as you are (here in Sampson County) but have found that there aren't any real hatcheries around here. I get eggs shipped to us, buy from a local person, or attempt to hatch our own. Best of luck to you!!!
