Local Paper prints anti-chicken editorial

Wish you the best of luck. Its legal to keep chickens where I live but 1 of my neighbors dont like it. Some people thinks that if people in a neighborhood keeps chickens it makes all the property value go down. Maybe if president Oboma made it legal for everyone in America to have chickens more Americans could afford to buy a home.

Good luck with your efforts to legalize keeping hens in La Mesa. I hope that you are successful. There were some great letters written in response to the editorial. Hopefully, the newspaper will take note and open their eyes to the movement towards eating from locally grown food sources.

It's not a fast process. My town argued about the chicken thing for about 3 years before finally approving 4 hens instead of 6, only 50 coop permits issued, 6-foot minimums from the coop to everything, and the law "sunsets" in a couple years unless they renew it.

Good luck. That editorial is ignorant - "go drive" is the stupidest answer I've ever seen. I'll leave a comment on it too.

I live in Kitsap County, WA. It was once a top egg production area in the Pac. NW. Now there is little area left that is zoned for agriculture. There seems to be an attitude that “our community does not have a need for agriculture, unless it comes off a truck wrapped in paper or plastic. I was thrilled to learn that a group has started to have meetings to discuss changes to the county codes in my area that would allow more agriculture opportunities for people in residential and rural here. See if there other people in your community who would want the ability to raise chickens, if it were allowed in your neighborhoods. Good luck.

Jill,

Thank you for helping out under such a good cause. The page is rather hard to navigate to find how I can write to the editor. If you get a chance, could you please message me, even as a PM me the e-mail or the physically address I need to mail my letters into to help fight legalize hens in La Mesa? ; )

Very happy with your work!

Sure thing. I emailed you but I'll say it here too. Email letters at uniontrib dot com to write a letter to the editor. Make sure your letter's under 150 words and include your full name, address, and phone.

If you want to also write the City Council here in La Mesa (if you live here) let me know and I'll let you know how to do that.

Something I want to ask you though...do you think it would be any help to let them know what I have worked with and my personal experiences and how it could help, etc.?
Haha. I know its a longshot since I raise mainly focus on exotics but its still better than no-one who never raised chickens before right? Haha
