Lock Down Day! Anyone Else?

Also intended to mention: the humidity level within the incubator assist with softening the shell to make it less stressful in the chick. Be sure the water level stays adequate in the bottom resivour and plugs stay in place at the top of the incubator is a still air.

6 dollins- sorry about your hatch! but you did the right thing. I get so grossed out by people yanking their birds too soon. It would almost be better for the chick to fall asleep in the egg.

once you know they are a dead in the shell egg, I do suggest opening it and finding out what when wrong. like if the was too much fluid? dried out looking? and maybe you can adjust your bator so you don't make the same mistake. I was reading on here Humidity ,humidity humidity! I hadent hatched in a while so I made it humid. Too humid, so I adjusted it in Feb. more chicks hatched. then I had my last hatch even less humidity (until hatching) and the came out the very best.

Thank you! Our birds get a lot of meat craps of so I will definitely cut that out from now on and stick with the lower protien feed.
Cut back on the level of protein feed when planning of gathering the eggs for hatching. A 10-12% level protein feed is adequate. Be sure not to use ground oyster shells etc. these too assist with a thicker, harder egg shell.
DUMAR carries a wide variety of feeds and can be purchased at TSC. This is what we feed and use a 16% fed to hens when eggs are for consumption. A 10-12% for eggs to be incubated.
Hope this info was helpful,
