lock down prep?

hello, does anyone know how keep eggs in place during lockdown, so when they hatch the chicks don't bump into the eggs trying to hatch, and roll them across the incubator

I have heard some people use coffee filters while other use cupcake liners,I just let mine roll the hatched chicks seem to get the others to hatch as well.

Mine are always rolled around, and it never affects my hatch rates. It seems to 'wake up' the unhatched chicks, as well. Putting a paper towel underneath the eggs during lockdown will help a bit (and, if you wet it, it will help with humidity) shelf liner will help as well. If you're really worried, hatch in egg cartons.

Hi Becci, I was doing a Google search about wet paper towels during lockdown. Mine are accidentally wet. I went into lockdown today, and the towels have absorbed the water from the pads under the wire. I really wet them good today! I have already opened my incubator a few times (day 18) to get them off the wet...but now the wetness has seeped to the other side...
let it go or do one more tweak????

It's totally fine if the eggs are laying on the wet paper towel, in fact, mine are right now.
Keep the incubator closed!

14 have hatched! It is wet in there now! goodness! My humidity went up past 80%. I did have to open the incubator to move the first nine chicks...wayyyyy to crowded in there. All is fine. Five more have hatched since moving the first group, and several more are in the process of escaping the shells. I did up the humidity in the room where I opened the incubator and the heat first, just to be on the safe side.
