Lock Down!!!?!?!?!?!?!

I THINK I have 7 out....husband said 8 last night, but I only count 7 this morning...one could be hiding in the back or a corner where I can't see. There's still one half zipped (same one that's been that way since yesterday) but I still see it breathing...and another pipped. Day 21 starts at 10AM (in 2.5 hours) for me. Will post pictures later tonight after I take these out...I know I shouldn't, but the one has been hatched for 2 days and is ready to get out...(s)he tries climbing the incubator and chirping REALLY loud....and pants....I think it's time to get it out and get it some water.

as long as you keep humidity up while you are taking the others out the ones left will be fine. I stick a wet warm paper towel in the corner while i have the bator lid open taking the others out. Mine are panting as well so into the brooder they go today!! I have 7 out as well with number 8 working on it . He should be here sometime today!! I do not see anymore pips or anything goin on with the other eggs but tomorrow will be day 23 for me so i'll give them till then. I think we all have had a pretty good hatch!!! So excited for you KB!!!!

We have 7 baby Muscovies!! #6 Kung fu kicked out BACKWARDS!

and I had to do a duck egg c/s for #7, because he was stuck in there for some reason with a thick white membrane...all of the others just came right out, so I'm not sure what happened there. I was so nervous at first, because he was so weak when I birthed him into the incubator. Now, though, he is a fluffy, healthy, little fuzz ball running around the brooder with the rest of them.

Looks like egg #8 never fully developed. I left it in there a few more days, nothing into the air cell, no movement, just darkness...I didn't want to open it. I was too afraid of what I might see. I gave it time and candled several times, but no movement, no noise, no nothing. We are happy and grateful for our 7 new babies!

Mr. Kung foo sounds like he's gonna be a busy thing!! How cute!! I had one come in upside down my first hatch lol Isn't it an amazing feeling when you birth them? Call me crazy but it just does something to me!! I had to birth 2 of mine as they got stuck. Now they are all fuzzy and running around!!! Tomorrow the last ones go into the bator and it will be pic time!!!

Congratulations Chickiebaby!!!!! Is it just me, or could you just hang out by the brooder all day. They are so cute. I talked to them before they hatched, and now when I come in the room and start talking to them they all go crazy peeping to me.

Well...Good news......Not so good news.....and terrible news.

Good news: 9 hatched

Not go good news: the 1 that was half zipped never got any farther.....so a little while ago I took it into the bathroom...It was partially shrinkwrapped....I was able to run some warm water on it and get the shell and membrane wet enough to pull all the shell off. I'm not sure if I got all the membrane or not...I think there's still some on it's head, but I didn't want to drown it trying to help it. It's back in the incubator, peeping away, trying to walk around once in a while. Fingers crossed for it!

Terrible news: I'm a horrible mommy

I took 2 babies with me to my nephews birthday party (he's 2 and adores animals). He loved them....I helped him hold it and he kept saying "put back" then pointing to the other one and "i see?" I loved that he held his little cupped hands up with a baby in it (with my hands cupped around his) and said "mommy, i hold chick chick!" he loved to just sit and watch them too, and cried when it was time to take them away. Well, I thought since they've been in an incubator that's 100 degrees, and it was only about 85 or so yesterday, that they'd be okay on the porch in the shade. They were fine when my daddy went outside....he said they were peeping and looking around just like they were inside (about 30 minutes after putting them out).....And I went out 10 minutes later and they were dead.

I don't understand how it happened so quickly! I should have put them in another room under the desklamp....But the 7 year old has been known to go into rooms and get into things that she knows she's not allowed to, so I was afraid that she would get to them and hurt them....I've learned from my mistake...But now am also worried...My plan was to put these guys on our screened in porch instead of in the house because of the dust. Will they not be okay out there? I've heard of people putting their brooders in the garage and I can't imagine that it's any cooler in a garage than on my porch!!

Oh...I am so sorry about your babies. You didn't do anything on purpose, and you can't go back in time, so try not to beat yourself up about it.
