Lock up

I hope you didn't pay the price for goslings, which is usually twice as much as ducks. You definitely have 6 Pekin ducks. No doubt about it.

Come on over to the duck forum..we will be glad to have you

There's a duck breed called jumbo pekins that can be almost as large as some geese, I've seen. I think even the geese think they're geese sometimes.

I'm kinda bummed. I thought I had geese

...a side from that I still like the little buggers. as of now they are about 4-5 weeks old. if they're ducks they are big ducks. as for the buying goslings you bet I did. if I remember right they were $3.99 each as little yellow puff balls. the chickens were all like $1.99 and they had Kaki ducks that were tiny by comparison.

the trick now is I need some geese to protect my ducks! dunno how well the ducks will do on their own around the dog if they aren't going to get much bigger then they are now? when do they get to their peak size?

Somebody really messed the labeling up on that one! $3.99 sounds like the right price for ducklings (not goslings which would be about twice that I would think) from TSC. At least you didn't get overcharged!

Oh and they should be almost full grown at 2 - 3 months old

TSC orders their birds by the boxload so it shouldn't be a big deal for them to add a pair of actual Embden to their next order for you. Officially, they want you to buy 25 or something if they special order birds, but they're already getting the minimum from the hatchery so it's easy enough for them to mix it up however they need to. If they give you any issues about it I would simply point out that they misinformed you about the product you were purchasing, and while you don't want to return them (can you imagine??), you would certainly like to get what you came in there to buy originally.

Embden are REALLY big geese, but beautiful. Americans are a little smaller and relatively friendly, mine are great at looking out for the ducks but like to chat with me in the barnyard. {Edit} Oh, and if I were you I would pay the extra dollar each to get either 2 girls or a mating pair... may as well get some eggs out of the deal, eh?

These are my Americans, Henry & Rusty. They're Holderread Lavender-ice but you should find that most hatcheries carry the buff color. They're very nice geese, just make sure they know you're the Head-Goose-In-Charge

I wouldn't even bother with TSC if I were you! I would contact one of your local feed stores which sells chicks/ducklings/goslings. Ask them if they wouldn't mind ordering you some with their next order. I find that they are usually much more willing to help than TSC. But you won't find any for $3.99!

Look to spend close to $10 each!
