LOCKDOWN IS TODAY!

Do you just have turkey eggs in the hatcher? The humidity spike when they are hatching out confuses me. Is that too much humidity for the ones still in the shell and they will drown? It's hard to get it just right for 21 days!!!

Yeah that's what worried me after the last hatcharound. I have some quail eggs on lockdown that went through those humidity spikes, not sure they'll hatch even though they like it bit more humid than chickens do.

Have you ever hatched just chicken eggs? What I'm wondering is does the humidity spike when they start hatching out hurt them or are they already so far along that they get through that spike fine?

Oh yeah, I was hatching chicken eggs with you over the weekend. I had these quail eggs in the incubator at the same time but they've gone through high 80s humidity from the chicken hatch and multiple incubator openings so we'll see how it goes.

I had the thought that in the wild the increased humidity helps but in a sealed up incubator the humidity is kind of out of control.

I remember you from the hatch and your problems too. So you do think the humidity spike while the chicks hatch is a problem? If so, does one barely start ventilation to try to control it?

WWC I also have chicken eggs in the bator but they are all at the same stage of development. This is my second hatch; first hatch was only chickens. I have research humidity on this site and there are folks out there who up their humidity to the 80% range at lockdown and have no problems. Just makes me uneasy to have the humidity so high. They say that it's important to not have the humidity too high during the first 17 days.

My humidity dropped (all that soaking up of water this morning finally had an effect in the bator)... now it's too low at 56%!!!

My turkey poult has been chilling today, no more progress since this morning... just a pip. I can see the beak moving as she breaths. I'm not planning on messing with the humidity by adding water because if that poult hatches soon then the humidity will bump back up. Thoughts?

Haven't opened the bator since this morning when I soaked up more water with a paper towel. Each time I opened the bator I put a wet paper towel over the pip to keep the membrane moist. And now after more research there are folks who advocate a higher humidity for turkey eggs (yup... in the 80% range).

Can you hear it peeping? I don't know anything about turkey eggs, but when chickens pip, they peep off and on. When you open the bator during lockdown, it can compromise everything,,,,,did it myself six days ago....which is why I am typing this one handed since I am spending quality time with my lone survivor.

This one has been quiet the whole time. I finally had the bright idea to put the vent plugs back in and the humidity has gone up to 62%. No one else has pipped - which is to be expected since they are on day 18. Is your baby doing better at drinking on her own yet?
