due to unforseen circumstances we ended up locking down maybe two days early, how detremental can this be to the hatch?

I am not sure how prone the yolk is to being damaged at the late stages. Albumin is nearly gone at day 16 so there is not a lot of other fluids to help keep the yolk suspended. The yolk is not drawn into the embryo until day 19. I did read one report of eggs not being turned during the first week do to a malfunctioning turner. that resulted in the possible loss of 7 eggs or so. it was not a complete loss maybe 5 % and it is not certain it was due to the lack of turning. I do know that improper turning is listed as one cause of failure in embryos at 16 days of development. this continues all the way up to day 18 by the way.
In a nut shell you are not doing them any good by not turning them.

OMG, I was getting ready to post this same thing....I read the calendar wrong and did that also...however, I can hear some chirping this morning, but I don't know how many it is or if any of them will hatch properly....I'll keep you informed. Good Luck to us both.

I've had some okay hatches on eggs I have confiscated from broody hens.... I had to estimate thier day of incubation by candling. Sometimes I have been off by a day or two. But most of the eggs hatch anyway, even with a couple of extra days in the hatcher.

I look at it this way, what's done is done

There is no sense stressing over it ya know? Just cross your fingers and hope for the best. I honestly don't think it will have a huge impact. I have done it a day early and it didn't change anything. good luck

Well... we finally finished with one live chick out of thirteen set eggs

As we had taken over this hatch from a girl who had set them in the auto-turn upside down, turned the incubator off for a couple of hours and then asked us to finish them off, that would been about day 16.

We basically put them into lockdown then.
On day 22 one egg had pipped at the small end and the chick didn't seem to have the room to swing his head to start zipping, we left him for most of the day before using the trusty leatherman carefully peeled the shell from the membrane around the small end half and left him for the night.
Come morning he was still cheeping loudly but hadn't made any progress with cutting out of the membrane, none of the other eggs seemed to be doing much at all.
I reneged and cut the remaining membrane away from the peeping chick and started to check the remaining eggs of which 6 had developed to around full term but with a lot of clear liquid still in the shell and the yolk still unobsorbed, one of these eggs still had a faint beat to it but died soon after.

next time we'll run the incubator right from the start ond be in control of the situation more should produce some better results.
