Lockdown

I guess that I should have added that if you do open the bator just make it quick. You can replenish the humidity with a quick shot of warm water in a spray bottle before re-closing. That is one reason that I asked the previous question though.

Update: the 1 egg I announced pipped at 11 this morning, got real serious about hatching at about 10pm tonight. From the time it began zipping, until the time it rolled out onto the bator floor, was about 45 minutes. I thought Austrolorps were solid black, but maybe the chicks have a bit of white, because this one has white around its beak, on the tips of its wings, and under its belly.

One of the other eggs (crested Polish) has a pip now.

My house was 85F by evening and we're all just melted like marshmallows here. My hens were panting so hard - one of them was - you could hear her vocal cords working on the in AND the out. I've nowhere cooler to put them. I gave them a big dish of cool water to drink, and rest up against if they wanted to. They did sip. If it'd been me, I'd have climbed right in!!

It's still 100+ here now. My birds quit panting long ago, should I check them for a pulse? The misters help in the daytime when it is 115+ though.

Good luck all, with the hatches.

I feel your pain! Its happend to me so many times! JUst dont give up too soon! If the temps were kinda low it will take longer for them to hatch..
