I'm on day 18 and locked down. My temps are at 102 F and humidity is at 80%. I've been told humidity is OK so I'm fine with that, but should I be worried about the temperature being so high?

Honestly I feel the humidity is a little high. . . I never go beyond 70%, and even that is only when chicks hatch and raise the humidity themselves. But, each person has a different preference.

With temperature - Can you adjust it yourself with your bator? How long ago did you lockdown? If it was less than 4 hours ago, you can open the bator again and adjust what you need to.

They both seem a bit high to me, but I know humidity need can vary greatly. Are you using a forced air or a still air? Do you have your vents open? That will help both temp and humidity AND the chicks are going to need the oxygen exchange anyhow. I incubate with the front vent open and then take the back one out as well at lockdown.

I started around 8:30am. They are in a Genesis 1588. I have had the red plug off for about 1 or 2 hours and still no change. What should I do? I'm not sure how to lower the temp as it's supposed to be automatic. This is my very first hatch so don't really know what I am doing. Should I just open it a little to let some of the warm air and humidity out? Maybe if I dried off some of the water, but wouldn't know how.

Isn't 102 ok if you have a still air? Hope all goes well, I'm in lockdown also, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Well, with it being a 1588, it shouldn't have risen so much in the first place. . . How's the temp of the room it is in?

Otherwise, I think a safe thing to do is keep the vent plug out, as that drops humidity and should let some air into there.

First of all love your website. Your goats are sooo cute!

We've been getting really weird weather here in PA. Cold, hot, cold, hot, etc.... It rained all day yesterday and now it has been very hot and humid all morning. We don't have a/c, so it is very hot in my room.

I didn't open it, but just cracked the bator just a tiny bit and the humidity is going down very slowly, but the temp is still the same. The humidity is at 77% now. How low should I put it to before closing it completely again?

Yeesh, not really a good thing. You chose the most temp stable room to have the bator in, yes?

If the temp isn't going down, close the bator. I would just let it sit at 102 if nothing else (keep the vent plug out though) and see how it goes. Can you do anything to cool the air around the incubator?

OK. Bator closed with humidity at 77%. The temp is still 102F. I put a standing fan with the spinning cycle thingy on it. Should this be OK?

I would worry more about the temp than the humidity. Ive had chicks hatch at 80% with no problems. Recently hatched 11/11 silkie with the humidity being 80-82%.

Not sure what you could do about getting the temp down.
