Locked threads

Ok, so I guess I am clueless but I have looked for but can't find info on locked threads. What would cause a thread to be locked?

Bad behavior, OP request, read-only info posts.... Read them and you'll be able to tell.

If a thread is disruptive, breaks the rules, is a dead horse or is deemed inappropriate by a staff member it may be locked and left out there with a reminder of the rules or if it is really bad, we just remove it from the forum.
