OK we are coming up on five months old an none of my duck have the tail feather curl. I’ve read that they’ve showed up by now.. but you never know right. ‍♀️
I have 2runners, 1 pekin and 1 mallard! I know the mallard is a female by her colors. But the other three?

I’ll post pictures!

Also do the females... get on top of each other like they are mating?

P.S. My pekin has a disability. I’ve tried everything. He/she is a very happy duck and just loves her mallard friend. I take him or her to the vet for checkups. Other than her neck she is perfectly healthy.

Hi there. :frow

Yes females mount each other. :hmm

One nice give away with ducks is that males get a raspy whisper voice instead of a loud quack by the time they mature, and much sooner than the curly tail. Seems like they do go through a loud quacking phase though, it's been a while since I raised them.

If you have anyone whispering, they are drakes.

My son's in law's have a Pekin with neck issues. They call him hunker duck. He gets around and mates and is pretty feisty among their flock. Pekin can require more nutrition than other breeds, not sure if that's the reason or genetics. But yes, he seems content with his life despite his neck being wonky.

Are ya hoping for any drakes? :fl

Okay.. lol I was a little freaked out there for a second.

Haha they all sound like the quack. ‍♀️ They are all very vocal especially in the morning when they want out to run!
They make little noises when they eat but.. sounds more like quacking when they see me bring treats out!

Awe how sweet. I love my pekin. I actually got her for free since they had no idea what was wrong. The vet seems to think it’s a birth defect.

Lol I’m hoping for all females. They roam free all day from about 6am- 9 or 10pm so I don’t want them to be hiding eggs and all of a sudden have a bunch of ducklings. 4 is quite the bunch already. When I get more land... it will be a different story!

Often caused by a specific nutrient deficit in the hatching egg. While the hen may be getting plenty, it might not have been enough to support embryo development fully. And it might not be the case for every egg even from the same hen.

Here are some sound bytes that have hens and drakes in them..

And a little video from google...
