If you think of the games of ancient Greece, I believe that all forms of horsemanship would have been included. Also the track and field events we have today. I am sure that swimming, and all forms of rowing would also be included, along with archery. Surely boxing and Judo type sports as well. I know the modern Olympics rightly includes the very recent sports such as tennis, cycling, shooting and football, but some inclusions are in my opinion not quite right. In my list I would put beach volley ball, synchronised swimming, and even diving. The last two I believe are almost impossible to judge, the judges not having the benefit of a televised replay, and the result is therefore very subjective. Beach volleyball is to me a children's game, might as well have Olympic skipping.

I am not sure if soccer belongs there either... too many draws and hard to determine a winner if nobody scores.

yeah, well, chickened, if you knew the rules about soccer you probably wouldn't have made your last statement. I don't think we should look down on any sports.. if there is serious competition for a certain event then why not? Early this morning when I was getting dressed and ready for my day I saw a thing on the news about a sport called "goalball." It's 3v3 and everyone is blindfolded and they throw a ball with bells in it towards the other team.. all three opponents have a goal behind them and they just try to hear which way the ball is coming and try to block it. Yeah, pretty ridiculous, but if there is a world wide competition for it why not?

- Goalball. Even more silly than speedwalking.

Here's a brief British history of a few well known sports:

Rugby was developed at Rugby School when a football (soccer) player picked up the ball and ran with it. American Football was developed from Rugby but AF players wear suits of armour.

Basketball was developed from Netball, a British schoolgirls' game.

Baseball was developed from Rounders, also a British schoolgirls' game.

Golf is thought to have been invented in Scotland.

I have to say my favorite part of the olympics is the gymnastics and the swimming. Probably cause America has done pretty well in both of them lately. Gymnastics cause they can do what is as of right now not possible for me and most likely never will.

I've been watching the Tae Kwon Do matches online. Thank goodness for steaming video! NBC is totally ignoring this sport. It's kinda funny - some of the matches look like kangaroos fighting. Just one leg and a lot of bouncing.
