I had 5 about 8 week old chicks 4 were roosters so I could not keep due to zoning. So now I have 1 chick she is lonely and crying often. My husband thought getting 1 week old chicks would help so he brought some home but she doesn’t want to do much with them just sits by them ( they are in an inclosure that she can jump into if she wants to) listening to them make noise. I have older flock and she can see them and interact if she wants to but wont leave her little coop we made her that she shared with the boys. I don’t know what to do she is just so sad. Any suggestions I have tried a mirror and feather duster too.

I would just let her get over it. It’s like losing a loved one, you can’t do anything to not feel sad. Just comfort her and keep her as stress free as possible. She will move on when she is ready, like we all do.

I am trying but the crying hurts my heart
I fully understand this!!!! We hatched eggs for a friend in the spring. Somehow they all ended up staying at my non chicken (now chicken people :) ) household. 3 of those kiddos where roosters that we re-homed yesterday to a friends farm. They where such an amazing family group of silkies and a hen/roo faverolle. My girls are SO upset. They were searching for them last night when I let them out to free range. The faverolle hen has been walking around "crying" all day. She is as heartbroken as I am. I feel your pain....They are 13 wks old and I just put my 4 wk old pullets into the run in a cage hoping it would distract them and hopeful that they would be a part of the restructuring of the family dynamics.
