I live way out in the country right in the middle of the woods. I was out walking my trails and found a lone pigeon. She did not appear sick and did not fly from me at all. In fact she walked around me near my shoes. The next morning she took up residence in my upstairs porch. She has only come down to eat and drink once in the late morning and right before the sun goes down. She is very alert. I looked for a nest and there isn’t one. She is just staying put. She is so far from any place that would have pigeons and it’s odd to see a pigeon alone. Does anyone have any insight on this? Why is she here? Why is she alone and why won’t she come down?

Thanks!

Can you get a picture? It is most likely a lost domestic pigeon. If it isnt, you have no reason to worry, they know more about what they like then we do.
Here she is. She came down again to eat. She is really eating a lot! Do you think she is just resting and going to move on? So odd to see a pigeon in the woods!

Hard to tell if it’s owned or not with no band. Could be a feral, could be someone’s.

Feral or not, it’s very likely that it’s lost. Time will tell if it’s planning on moving onward, though a day or two’s rest with food and water should be enough to send her on her way. If she sticks around you have been chosen! If this happens I strongly recommend keeping it, pigeons are very rewarding birds to keep and I got interested in the hobby based on my own experiences with a lost bird.
