I posted a forum yesterday about my sudden duck’s death and I just wanted to come on here and address another concern. I am concerned about my other 2 ducks that were living with her. My duck died suddenly last night and ever since her death, my other 2 ducks will not go into their coop ( which is where we found the other duck at). Instead they have both been sitting in one corner of their run since last night. When we found her, she was alive, but barely. So I am not sure if they saw her when she was dead but they definitely saw her when she was close to her death. Is there anything I can do for them? They still have eachother but I know they are most likely still grieving the loss of one of their buddies.

Sorry for your loss
What caused her death ? Was it a predator? Something that could have spooked them by chance
Could you carry them in and give small treats so they see it as a positive place to be ?

I am so sorry for your loss. They may need time and reassurance. Do you know her cause of death? If it was a disease, or you think it might have been, you may want to get a necropsy done on her so that you know the other two are safe.. If it was maybe predatory, you might wanna bring them in until you can fortify their home, and if it was genetic then just love your other two babies and show them their home is still their safe place

I have no idea how she died. I came home to find her lying on her back , then when I flipped her over , she fell right down and couldn’t hold herself up. She had no injuries other then it looked like she nicked her wing a little. She was perfectly healthy and an hour before her death, she was up and running around. Their coop and run is enclosed and no predators could get in. Tomorrow when I get out of work in the morning, I was thinking of bringing them inside and spending some time with them, I just don’t know how long they can be like this for

Her death was very sudden. She seemed perfectly healthy. Great appetite, drinking well, running around well. I found her laying on her back and about 5 minutes after that she took her last breath in my arms. I have no idea how she died. I know it wasn’t a predator that killed her because she had no observable injuries and their coop and run is al enclosed. I am very lost on what happened

Poor things
Maybe saw her stressed out and it scared them
Hopefully they will settle back into routine soon

You said she had a knick on her wing? Was there any blood around the coop or run area? Sometimes they play rough, or something could startle them where they injure a blood feather and it can cause sudden death from blood loss. Since they have such a small amount of blood in them and so many places to hurt themselves when they act too silly..

There was blood on the end of her one wing but it was very little. All the blood was on her wing, there were no drops of blood in her coop or in the run. One of the other ducks had a speck of blood on his fur that I am guessing is from her because he didn’t have any injury to him. I know she didn’t die from the other ducks pecking her because I’m guessing if that was the case, she would have more injuries/ open wounds on her

I'm so sorry you lost your duckie.
:hugs

I'm sure they need time to mourn and adjust. But it might make you feel better to check their area for anything that might have injured her or signs of predation.
