We just lost the goose to our only pair
I am absolutely heart broken! the remaining appears to be fine, but is he really? Should I get him another buddy? The pair have been together since right after hatching. They're American Buffs and finding another in my area is going to be quite difficult.

I'd say he is heartbroken they form very strong ties but getting him another goose will help him alot. this time of year people who hatched goslings in the spring will be looking for homes for those they don't want to keep so you may not find it that hard. Look here on the Bye sell trade thread and the rehoming thread also plus craigslist, ask at your feed store also. or post a note that your looking for a goose. Are you open to another breed besides Buff? that may help you locate a goose quicker. What part of the USA are you in so folks can help if they have extra and are close. very sorry for your loss.

So you think getting any other breed would be fine? Would a goose or gander matter? I can find another breed pretty easily. I'm in Southern Oregon and willing to travel if anyone has one to spare!!!

I think a female would be best they really like the opposite sex. lol I have 3 different breeds Embden, Buff, Toulouse and they all love each other. get along great and are their own flock. we also have a "Where are you where am I "thread you can look up Oregon and also ask on there. Please post back when you find a friend for your gander.

I think I founds a embden pair from this spring. How would you go about an introduction?

I know this question sounds silly, but will he feel left out since they're already a bonded pair? Or will they include him as their own?

I don't think that will work unless he's a very young gosling, a mated pair the gander won't like having another gander around. He will dif feel left out. When you do find a friend even 2 females would work, but 1 would be fine other than if something happened to either one then your left with a lonely goose again. But when you bring home the new ones place them side by side in separate areas with a fence running down the middle. more than likey in about a week they will have gotten to know each other well enough you can start having supervised visits to see if they can have the middle fence taken down.

Hi. what Miss Lydia said about finding him his own female is very good advice. Bringing a pair into the pic is likely to cause one big headache. It´d be best to keep looking.

I was always under the impression that you couldnt visually tell the sex on a buff. But I've been doing a ton of research, and with embdens, some folks have said the ganders bill and feet are much brighter. Here is a picture of the two before they feathered. The remaining one, crush, is on the left. And when they feathered, marlin (on the right) only got brighter. So maybe I do have a goose left? In that case, getting a goose/gander pair may be okay?

Thanks for your guys' input. I can't stand seeing him (now maybe a her) like this and want to get something ASAP, and all I can find is pairs.

Which one of them was darker as a tiny gosling? That´s the way you can tell, not to do with the colour of bill and feet... the darker one would be the female.
If it´s a female that hyou have, then a pair may or may not be ok. Sometimes a pair can be a bit hard on the odd-on-out, and sometimes not. Much depends on the geese, but 2 males with one female is courting trouble.

livin I don't think you can tell by color on the Buffs which is male female only Embdens. I maybe wrong but I don't think so. If she's talking about the pics she posted.
