Yesterday, I unexpectedly lost one of my ducks. She seemed fine the night before, but when I woke, she was gone. She had laid a few rubber eggs leading up to her death so I think she may have had a virus.
Now I have one female. Everything I've read says that it's cruel to keep just one. She's acting normal and laying normally so I don't think she is sick. I do plan to wait at least a week though before I take any action, just to be sure.
I have looked everywhere I can think of and cannot find a companion for her. I found a woman who was willing to take her but she has an all male flock and I just don't think that giving her my girl is a good idea. She said that she would keep her separate from the boys, but to me, that sounds as bad as keeping her with me but with more stress.
I am in North Mississippi/Memphis. Any solutions or ideas are appreciated.

Can you purchase or ask her for one of her male Duck for companionship? until you can find a better alternatives?

I’m so sorry for your loss. :hugs

I would agree, don’t give her to an all male flock- she’ll just be lonely there too if kept by herself.

Give her a stuffed animal and an unbreakable mirror to keep her company and spend lots of time with her!

If you have a local Tractor Supply Co. you could go there to get ducklings or maybe leave a sign with them advertising you have a female duck that needs a home or that you need another adult female duck.

I hope everything works out!!

So very sorry for your loss.:hugs

Your right best not to give her to the all drake lady even if she says she'll keep her separate.
She needs good companionship go here "where am I where are you" look up your state and post hopefully you'll find some one close by that can help you out. :fl

Thank you for the ideas! I did put a pillow in with her last night. Her bedding is fleece blankets so at least she has some cozy. I'll check out the Tractor Supply too. I'll make a flyer. I know they have a board.

So many great ideas! Thank you so much everyone. I made a post in the Mississippi thread. I put a mirror in with her today. She's checking it out. The fam also took turns sitting out in the yard with her so she didn't have a lot of alone time. Tomorrow I'm heading to tractor supply to post a flyer. I did find someone selling female Muscovies. I've heard they are aggressive. Any thoughts?
