Lonely mallard

I had a pair of mallard that I raised last spring. Something ate the male a few months ago and I have tried to replace him but have lost both the full grown ones I've bought. Was wondering if a female mallard is ok by herself. My silkie rooster seems to have taken to her ( and even tries to breed with her) she has definitely calmed down and seems ok alone but I wasn't sure if come spring I should try to replace her mate again.
She basically thinks the rooster is her mate now but is that too strange to allow!?

It would be hazardous to her health if she was the chicken and the roo was a drake but this way it is okay. You may just want to get another female for her so she at least has a buddy of her own species.
