hello,

one of my fowl is now a loner. he does not socialize with the rest of the clan. he goes up high on the top of the coop and just sits there. he does come down at night. if I chase him down, the rest of the flock attacks him.

about two weeks ago, he had an eye problem but it since has healed (at least it is open now). he does not favor one eye anymore and can look at me from both sides.

it seems he will not fly away, so he still has some flock instincts in him.

the rest of the flock just stays on the ground. I guess fear has it that he can make the initial flight to get on the coop roof.

anything to try?

I know it is nature, I have a 1 1/2 YO with a splayed leg. She does her own thing too.

During the breeding season a male or 2 often ends up being alienated/ostracized from my flocks too. If you can manage keep him alive thru the season, letting him do his own thing on the outer edge of the flock... they should all mellow out and accept him back once the days shorten and the weather cools. They may see him as a week link tho, since he had his eye injury and that's why they are alienating/ostracizing him. It may help and boost his confidence to give him extra attention and treats. Good luck.
