Morning all.....I have a nearly 2yo coturnix who lives indoors, she hasn’t laid for over a year now & so doesn’t bother with the cuttlefish, & I’ve noticed her top beak is getting a bit long, anyone got any advice on what I can do to get it down a bit?have been trying to take a pic but it’s really hard to catch her side on, she’s so dark, & she always looks at me! 🙄

Give her a sizable brick or piece of hard, rough stone and she might wear it down on her own. Putting some treat seeds on top of a flat piece of slate will trick her into pecking it and over time wearing it down, although they also wipe their beaks in hard objects precisely to do that as well.
It might also be best to clip it first. It looks a little too long for her to fix it all on her own, but you don’t have to clip it too close if you can provide a stone.

I can’t see the pic very well, but she’ll need something to hone her beak on. Scissor beak comes to mind But she’s kind of old for that to develop. Possibly she has nothing to hone on (a sharp rock or brick) so it can’t be filed down, could get better or worse 😔

She’s called Coco, she’s such a lovely dark brown, don’t really know what she is as she was the only dark one in the brood. No her beak doesn’t bother her I just noticed it was looking a bit long, she stopped laying when she was about 6 months old & never has since which is why I guess she doesn’t bother with the cuttlefish as she doesn’t need the calcium. She’s a funny old birdo 🥰

Trick her with treats on a rock or brick meal worms or some such treat she will peck at and place it on a brick or rock or slate o.o trick her into it lol i heard its a way people trick there quail into scratching there feet to keep from poop toes and long nails

I’ll get her a clean brick tomorrow, & I saw something on another thread about putting sandpaper on the bottom of the food container for when they peck around for seeds etc , thanks all 😊
