We re considering spending the 6-12 weeks in another state this year. I would prefer to take our 6 chickens with us but not sure it's realistic. Has anyone travelled with their chickens for an extended time? Any tips to making it work?

That would be very stressful for the flock.
If I were in your situation I'd hire someone very responsible to tend to the flock. And install security cameras so you could monitor their care.

Do your research first. Contact the states that you plan to travel through and your destination state to make sure that you have all the required tests and paperwork with you.

important points to consider.

Also, @ruetaylo will you travel to x state and stay in one spot for the duration, or will you be moving around? If staying in one spot, might be worth the hassle.

Very doable. I took 3 juvenile games to st. Louis last summer for 2 weeks. I compensated tight confinement with free-range time in city park twice daily. Chickens could be called to hand. If longer duration in fixed location, secure coop area like at home. Movable coop will be hard part.

Have a responsible house sitter and leave them at home. That would be my first choice every time!
A couple of birds who can be called to hand or leashed, the appropriate health certificates and testing done, and a large enough travel and portable coop, maybe. If there's nobody at home to manage them?
