I have come to the forums at BYC over the last few years but have only recently been in need of some answers that I cannot find already answered. I decided to create a username and see what happens!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I have had my chickens for two years now. Our first chicken, Big Chicken, mysteriously appeared in my neighbor's lawn one day, which happened to be the day after my birthday. I had been wanting chickens for some time at this point and my husband said we could keep her. I decided to build her coop myself (which was poorly constructed, might I add) and within a week we were at the local feed store buying chicks. I have no idea how old Big is but I love her so much.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have five chickens; four which were raised from chicks and our Big Chicken.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Because Big Chicken was a runaway to our house, I'm not certain of her breed but think she is in the Rhode Island Red family. The other girls are Golden Comet.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
When we first adopted Big into our household I knew NOTHING about chickens. This site has been my go-to resource for all things chicken.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
We also own rabbits who have recently given birth for the first time. In addition we have cats and dogs. Our family loves animals!
