(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We got our first 3 baby chicks in April 2016--a Buff Orp and 2 Easter Eggers. We unfortunately lost the Buff Orp in a heat wave in 2017 and replaced her with a Barred Rock who isn't nearly as friendly! You win some, you lose some.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 6 now, because, chicken math. We are currently trying to rehome our Silver Cuckoo Marans rooster who was supposed to be a hen!
(3) What breeds do you have?
We have 2 Easter Eggers from our original bunch, a Barred Rock, and our newbies this year: a new Buff Orp, a Black Australorp, and a Silver Cuckoo Marans roo.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I read the forum posts a LOT while we were getting started with new chicks, then again for tips when we lost one to the heat, then AGAIN when we dealt with scaly leg mites after the girls hid in the coop all winter! This is the best place I've found for great advice!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
My husband & I love traveling, hiking with our dogs.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm excited to officially join the group! I am a former vet tech with some experience--I'm excited to share my experience and continue to learn from everyone else!
