Hello! I'm Daderbee and I currently live in Washington state on an acre in a fairly rural area where my 5 chickens free range most of the time. My chickens are a little over a year old right now and are excellent layers of brown eggs.

The flock consists of two black Jersey Giants named Hilda and Morticia, a Buckeye named Spindrift, a Blue Langshan named Zelda, and a Silkie roo named Frido (well, originally it was Frida because we thought he was a she at first). Frido is skittish with the shrillest crow I ever did hear (he goes off around 5 AM every day), Morticia is sweet and loves any treat - smallest of the two Giants, Hilda is loud and is a true giant at around 10-11 pounds (she gallops around with a limp when she wants to run fast but she doesn't limp when she's walking slow), Spindrift thinks every bite of food is her last so she gobbles everything up as fast as she can, and Zelda is the loner independent flying escape artist (but she is my favorite even if she does fly the fence every once in a while because she's the only one that will ride on my shoulder and voluntarily sit on me / hang out with me). I did have a Partridge Penedesenca roo named Spirit as well but he was getting increasingly aggressive with my 6 year old (he even sometimes challenged me) so away to a new home he went.

I have finally decided to make an account after lurking on BackyardChickens forums/articles for quite a while because within the next couple of months I am adding new pullets to my existing flock (when the new ones get old enough of course). I am not too entirely sure of the best way on how to go about merging the new chickens with the old ones so I'm always open for tips. I do expect some chicken arguments to happen though.

The 3 breeds I am adding: Ancona, Golden Campine, and Easter Egger. I wanted some colored and white egg layers that had some beautiful feathering in my flock. Originally I wanted a Cream Legbar and some Splash Ameracaunas but the hatchery/farm store were sold out. I'm aware of the flightiness of Ancona and Golden Campine breeds (I have some experience dealing with Zelda, the flighty Langshan).

I think that is all for right now. I don't want this post to turn into a novel so I think I'm going to wrap it up here. Thanks for reading!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
If you can, build your brooder in the coop so your current flock can watch the chicks grow. It is not uncommon to be able to integrate new chicks into an existing flock when the chicks are 6 weeks or less old by raising them this way.

Hello and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us. Please make yourself at home.

This is a useful link of “How to” BYC guides to take a look at announcements-feedback-issues-guides.3. I’d suggest including your location using the guide in the link. You can use this link to contact members in your area - Find your State's thread.

Best wishes
