Good Morning!
I have spent quite a lot of time here (since I first started looking into getting chickens before I started out), but never actually joined until today. I have had chickens for six years now. I have two six year old hens, one is a Light Brahma and the other is a Gold Laced Wyandotte. I also have seven chicks that are nearly two weeks old in a variety of breeds: Black Australorps, Auracanas, Dark Brahma, Noir Marans, Lavender Orpington, and Olive Egger.
I love having chickens around for so many reasons. The fresh eggs are amazing, they make wonderful pets (I learned quickly that chickens have their own personalities!), and they really seem to help with insect control.
Although my new babies will have themselves a nice chicken tractor that I am still working on, my two old hens will remain in the same house as my Pygmy Goats (they have lived together in the same building for the past 4 years and they seem to prefer it there). I also have a dog, a turtle, a freshwater aquarium, and a carnivorous plant bog.
