Hello everyone!

I've been a lurker for about 6 years now, signed up a few months ago, and am finally posting my intro! As you can see, I socialize at a snail's pace.

I have always had a love for birds, but due to allergies I was never able to own one. Now that I'm older and have my allergies under control, I'm hoping to finally have birds of my own! Currently I have a whopping zero chickens, trying to save up for my first prefab coop and supplies. My plan is to start off with a small flock of 4-5 or so silkies and expand to a large custom coop at a later date to give my flock plenty of room to grow. Right now my chicken plans are just for pets with bonus eggs, but should my allergies allow and if chicken math inevitably sets in, I may branch out into breeding.

Will be extra fun when I break ground on my garden, I'm sure they'll love digging around for some leftover flower and veggie treats!

Besides silkies, I have an interest in ameraucanas, sumatras, wyandottes, asil/aseel, orpingtons, barnevelders, and cream legbars. If I get a really bad case of math I may even try bobwhite quails (in a separate aviary)! I felt silkies would be a good starting point as they are usually considered a more docile breed that tolerates handling, plus they are fibromelanistic and look like Muppets which should help since my mom is weirded out by chickens with large, red single combs and wattles. I find big floppy combs and wattles a charm point, but they remind her of raw meat so...

Anyways, look forward to reading everyone's posts and chatting with y'all later!
