Long time lurker, first time posting

Welcome from Eastern Kentucky 🤗!!! — You’ll be very happy here, as a fairly new chicken-owner myself, I have needed/used this site for so many things.
— These message boards have been extremely helpful, sometimes I need really important questions answered or some advice on some pretty serious topics, and other times I’ll just need a bit of encouragement or maybe a little friendly feedback; however, no matter what it is, you’ll find others here that can/will respond to you with what you need, or at least with the best of their ability to try and help out.
— It’s a wonderful chicken-keeper community that I’m super thankful for. I’m very happy to hear that you’re comfortable participating and I’m looking forward to learning more about you and your flock!!! 😉🐥♥️

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I’m still new to chickens. I’ve owned some for about a year and a half now.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have 18 hens and 2 Roosters and 1 Mixed chick that is 3 weeks old.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I have a mix of breeds. The older rooster is a Silver Laced Wyandotte and the younger one is a Golden Comet. I have 1 Silver Laced hen, 2 RIR, 4 Buff Orpingtons, 3 golden comets and 8 Easter Eggers.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Collecting eggs is pretty awesome but I enjoy watching their behavior patterns as well.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I also enjoy gardening
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

My family and I moved to a small town 800 miles away from the big city. We are little by little trying to become self sufficient. I have a wonderful partner of 4 years and we have 3 children together.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?

After constantly searching the internet and always stumbling across threads from this forum, I figured it was time to join.
Welcome to BYC!
:wee

Please share photos of your set up and your flock, would love to see them.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. My setup is small as I’m on a budget.

I keep the Chickens separated by age. The older ones are 18 months old, 6 Hens and one rooster. They reside in a run and coop that I built.

The “middle” coop and run houses 8 “Easter Eggers”, all hens, 5 months old. Got our first egg from these hens this past weekend.

Finally, I made a pallet broody box for a broody Buff who was part of the first flock. They turned on her several times and she almost died from their pecking. Against my wife’s wishes, I kept here alive in her own pallet enclosure. She healed beautifully. When she finished recovering, I decided she needed some company (as she was very broody). We stuck a couple fertile eggs under her and a few weeks later she hatched a chick. The other fertile egg was discovered cracked open next to her with an underdeveloped and deceased chick.
Mom and chick are happy and healthy and she’s holding 2 more eggs that should be hatching this week 🤞🏽.
Here is Misfit and her chick. Chick is unnamed and is a cross of Rhode Island Red mama and Silver Wyandotte roo.
