Hi all! I've been a longtime follower of BYC, but just lurked around soaking up the great info. Figured it was time to finally join.
My husband and I live on 6 acres in Iowa and decided to give poultry a try this spring. We started with 7 free range Pekin and Rouen ducks for pets and eggs (ended up with 4 drakes so culled the flock down to 1 drake and 3 ducks) and did a trial run of 20 Cornish x broilers in tractors. We've been really happy with our first year and are getting things ready now for bigger runs of both ducks and broilers next spring. My main goal is for a small flock of Ancona ducks!
You all have been invaluable in getting us through our first year, from chicks to butchering. The information here has got us through several crises and just ensured we have raised healthy and happy birds. Many thanks!!!
