They are neat animals! These are registered Texas Longhorns, and there are actually quite a few left, in Michigan alone we have our own club with close to a hundred members! They are more popular in Texas, and we travel there for events on occasion. They have confirmation shows, and the more popular horn measuring competions coming up this fall. If your ever in FT Worth the horn showcase and the longhorn world championships are a must see!! There will be cows with over 80" tipto tip horns, bulls with over 90" and steers with over 100" tip to tip and the total horn classes are even more impressive! Google Texas Longhorn Breeders of America and you should find a lot of ranches with them.

I love having them. I have three boys and we didn't want any thing crazy! Just like any thing else there are certain bloodlines we avoid, because they have a reputaion for being 'hot", but my cattle are all very laid back and mild mannered. It is actually considered a flaw for the bulls to be aggressive towards people, thus most breeders won't use one that is. Don't let the horns fool you, my pet cow loves to share glazed donuts!! We are out there when they calve, and handle most of the calves with in minutes of their birth. I love calving season, its like an easter egg hunt with all the pretty colors, you never know what you'll get!

I love that first pic of the scenery! Awesome photo! I'd love to see more of the longhorns too

I would love to have longhorns one day! We've got about 100 acres so it's a good possibility we could one day

They are just fascinating! I live in the country, and I drive past cattle every day, but nothing like your longhorns! Take care and thank you so much for sharing those pictures!

I love the Texas Longhorns. I have a friend who raises them and his bull has 104" horns. I think they are the largest in the country so far. I have Scottish Highlands and am thinking of making the switch to longhorns. I do like the Highlands too but

Beautiful herd and beautiful farm!

I had no idea anyone kept Longhorns so close to me.

joedie: Scottish Highland are good-looking cattle too (IMHO)

With my little 5ac farmette the best I can hope for is someone breeding lowline Longhorns or Scottish Highlands
