Hi all,

I have been reading posts here forever, and finally gave in and created an account.

I am one of those people that never pictured themselves becoming a quasi-homesteader. I was a punk-rock traveling kid, my husband a bizarre mixture of pottery artisan and NASCAR mechanic. We have somehow landed ourselves in our 30's as non-conforming activist, artist, wacky, free-range parents to two amazing little dudes. Now that we are settled, we have set in to transforming our little patch of land into something uniquely us. This includes a menagerie of animal companions including dogs, a rabbit, chickens, and a crawdad, and (soon) a goat and some bees.

We first got chicks in 2010, but ran into some family issues and felt it right to give them to a friend-of-a-friend at 2 months (chicken mission failed & sad times).
In early 2013, we tried again- this time with 2 young coop-ready pullets (chicken success- cue applause!).

Since then, we have steadily increased our flock- and learned a bit about our local predators in the process (coyotes, raccoons, and hawks, oh my!)
Our current flock consists of:
3 Buff Orp hens, 3 Golden-Laced Wyandotte hens, 1 Barred Rock hen, 1 Speckled Sussex hen, 1 Blue Ameraucana hen, 1 RIR roo, 1 Silver-Laced Cochin Bantam roo.

I am looking forward to getting to know some more chicken-fanciers and building my online community here.

Hello and welcome to BYC!

Great that you are getting back into chickens! Once they get under your skin, they have a way of staying there. :-)

If you have any questions about anything, that is what we are here for. So pull up a roost bar and welcome to our flock!
