Hello!
I've been frequenting these forums finding answers, ideas, and people with the same questions which sometimes don't have clear answers. I decided to finally create an account. My username comes from my name, Alan, and I live in a town which ends in "berg."
Here's the obligatory questions and answers:

I've been frequenting these forums finding answers, ideas, and people with the same questions which sometimes don't have clear answers. I decided to finally create an account. My username comes from my name, Alan, and I live in a town which ends in "berg."
Here's the obligatory questions and answers:
- Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Not brand-new, but certainly not experienced. We have only layers, and since late 2018. First eggs were produced just before winter.
- How many chickens do you have right now? 14
- What breeds do you have? 5 Buff Orpingtons, 5 Barred Rocks, 4 Rhode Island Reds. The buffs and br's are the oldest. The rir's were added the following spring 2019.
- What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Getting fresh eggs, from chickens we know are treated well, and we know exactly what they're eating. (Well, except for what they find under the surface of the ground.)
- What are some of your other hobbies? Gardening, considering small commercial gardening (not CSA), horseback riding, Waze map editing/updating.
- Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. Almost empty-nesters, one out of school, youngest away at college (except for right now during the 2020 pandemic.) One of us is in technology, the other a preschool teacher. We have 2 horses, 2 cats, 1 small dog (a cute, 6lb white mix Maltese, Shih Tzu, Yorkie), 8 acres of land on which grows grass for seed and grass for hay.
- Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? Google, a year, and posted above.
