Longview, NC ordinance

Is anyone living in the Longview NC area and wanting to add chickens? Just found out that chickens are not allowed in the city limits and I'm heartbroken. Just bought a house and made the assumption that they would be allowed since the larger neighboring town allows them. Blew my mind to find out the much smaller rural town does not allow them. Seeking a partner in helping me get the ordinance changed. I have spoken to the person over the planning department and apparently this ordinance has been on the books for some time and no one has recently tried to change it.

Any advice?
