Just putting in a thought here.....
Some of the senior posters on this forum have recommended that new chickens be kept apart from your main flock for ATLEAST 30 days so that you can be sure that they are not sick before introducing them to your established flock.
Infact, a whole thread is dedicated to the unfortunate incident in which some rescued chickens were not apart long enough and it almost wiped out the posters whole flock.
Please, consider this...I have an 11 year old..and I know she would be crushed if something like that were to happen....
