Look at what we woke up to today... EMU CHICKS!!

Just too cute!
I didnt know the females made the drumming sound. A friends male made a drumming type sound and he was always trying to get frisky with me.... maybe it was a female and my friend just doesnt know better. lol Do the females lay eggs without a male present, like chickens do? Hers never did lay an egg.... making me think it was indeed a male Emu.

"he" sets on the eggs!!! that's just weired!

would a pair of Emus serve as good protection for backyard chickens? I've seen where people use things like big male turkeys, pigs, llamas, and other things as "guards" for their chickens. I would bet Emus would scare things like Hawks... would they get along with chickens or would they "stomp" them?

p.s. I think they are beautiful as adults and babies alike... AWESOME birds and would be so exciting to have...

Great pics! Thank you for sharing!

Do you know any good online place for info on emu as pets? There is no backyard emus forum! I have been looking but have not come up with much about raising them as pets. I think you got quite a few of us interested!! Thats why babies are so cute isn't it!
