My black call duck went broody 21 days ago. I had no fertile duck eggs, so I gave her some chicken eggs.
She was EXTREMELY hostile, and protective of her nest. She's a great momma.
This morning I found this. Right on time.
I left it go for several hours. The membrane was really dry & tough by this afternoon. It was obvious the little thing was exhausted.
I gave it a little help by making the hole by it's beak bigger. It gave a big push when I did that, and it practically hatched in my hand. AMAZING!
I brought it in and put it in the brooder so it could get dry.
And just now.
Isn't it cute!!!
I'm thinking this one's chicken mom is my BO. Dad is a RIR.
This evening my other 2 eggs were pipped!!!
This is my first ever hatch! I'm just tickled pink!!!
