Just as I was coming out the door, I heard a dog start barking and my dogs went crazy. Then the owner of the dog yells, look out he bites as the dogclears my six foot fence. He is headed right for the kids.

I'm with you. That would have been the end of the dog then and there.

Same. I don't have kids but if it came after anyone in my family or another animal I would have shot it. (if I had a gun)​

Look - If the owner was responsible enough to put up a six foot fence, he probably thought the dog was contained. I would have. I think you were absolutely right to protect you and yours and I have no doubts that I would have done the same. Not all accidents can be prevented and we are over-regulated as it is by those who think we can. That's why it was illegal to pack in lots of places for a long time. A big thumbs up to you!

Kudos for you! Why anyone would keep a dog knowing he has no control over it and that it bites is beyond common sense. Maybe I need to move to your neck of the woods.
PS. when I was very young, I was mauled by a lose dog running in a pack. I was the tenth (and last) person it had bitten. I have had dogs too, but still have no tolerance for such people.
