Looks like Ice my peacock has competition. These two showed up in the yard the other morning. They came because of the wild turkey hen that stays with Ice. When Ice went over to them they went back up in the field. I guess they didn’t like him. The turkey hens showed up last summer and stayed. The turkey hens went up to them later in the day but came back at night. Ice stayed home with his two peahens. The two peahens did go to check them out when they were in the yard but walk right away from them. Hope they don’t keep coming back. I don’t know if they will fight with Ice also I would not want the peacock and peahens to follow them. I love living here because you never know what will show up in your back yard.

Those are beautiful birds! Almost as nice as Ice

We have a lot of them here also, but they don't usually come close to the houses. I have been trying to get nice pictures of them in full strut for some time. With their eyesight I could not get close enough. This year I am seeing a lot of wild animals in the fields during the day. Yesterday I saw a black bear in the field right behind the house and of course all the deer. Last night I took pictures of ten of them just walk by. We had a bad crop of acorns last fall here in Eastern Pa. There was none at all. I guess that is why they are coming to the fields more in the day. No food in the woods. Wished I had the camera handy when the bear was there. But It did not stay around long enough for me to get it.

We have wild turkey that come every year to flirt with our peahens. (Yes, the peacocks and toms will fight, and it's always been the tom turkeys that start the tussle here.) We have a resident flock of turkey, about a dozen, that never leave a 2-sq-mile radius. They move from farm to farm, chowing down on everyone's feed. The toms will start calling the peahens early in the morning, and a few times I've seen the toms pacing outside the aviaries. They are beautiful creatures, aren't they?
