Look what I found in my dog's mouth!

Somehow these little guys find me. This is the third one that I have held in my hand and rescued. I don't know how Allegrea found it or how it ended up in her mouth. She's very alert and is moving around the box. I have a feeder and some flowers that were dipped in nectar for her. Hopefullt she will be out of the box by the end of the day. I'm hoping she's just wet with dog slobber, though I wouldn't mind adopting her for a while!

Thats awesome! I have 6 (Maybe more) different types of hummingbirds that come to my backyard. (I plant stuff for them and butterflies)

Could your poochie have found a nest some where??? That is truly amazing, mine probably would have eaten it for sure.

I think that maybe it flew into the house, one of the wings is looking a bit inoperable. I fed my chickens a Cicada that was the same size as this poor little thing. I really don't know what to do with it. It's sooo sweet, turning its haed and looking at me like one of my chickenS!!

DOES ANYONE KNOW ANY HUMMINGBIRD 1ST AID??

Sad to say but it is VERY likely to die unless you get it to an aviary specialist or animal rescue/humane society that PROMISES not to put it down. They are extremely difficult birds to raise without an injury. Their metabolism is off the charts. If you can set the wing and it heals you might have a chance. It is just very unlikely, so don't feel bad its Mother Nature at work...

If I remember right you cannot even own them (At least in California).

There are many nectar recipes on the net if you search for them. It might be able to eat tiny insects for protein to.

PSS I would call animal rescue places or even PETA (god forbid lol). Just don't tell anyone at PETA anything about yourself just ask if they know an aviary specialist near you.
