look who was sitting on my run this morning

My husband is a lawyer, and it is ilegal to shoot a gun in most areas. I have a great bb gun but when you shoot it you have to have an awsom aim, like I do, or you never know where it will end up. Are they on our turf, or are we on there turf. I love all animals, but my domesticated ones come first.

I have a bb gun and a pellet gun. The pellet gun can shoot through a bores head and I only use it for practice and killing rats and predators that try to kill my babies. I use the pellet gun to scare away birds of prey and vultures and the loud noise does scare em away. I just found out that we have minks up here! Now I am more scared. This one guy killed a mink because it kept going in the cage and killing his girls.

There is a cooper's hawk that has gotten into our hen house 4 times now. It has killed two hens, and attacked our rooster. This time we were ready. I am not willing to lose all my chickens. We were home today as my 4 year old is sick. But normally, we would have been at church for hours. We would have come home to a dead flock. This bird eats the heads off of our chickens. No, it isn't a raccoon. It's a hawk. We have found him inside the coop.
I lock my chickens in the hen house at night (concrete floor), and during the day they are in an enclosed run consisting of an electric fence and bird netting over the top. The hawk just keeps getting back in. But not after today! Just how illegal is it to kill a hawk if it is repeatedly in your hen house?

I wouldnt think it would be that difficult to keep a hawk from getting into a coop. I would rather fix the coop than kill the hawk:(

For what it's worth since I'm not an expert, and from a different part of the country, I think he might be a juvenile judging from the spots on his underside? Maybe that will work in your favor. Is there anyway you can make loud noises to scare him off? Dogs barking, even a recording? Good luck!

My dog and cats are pretty good at scaring them off. I have seen bigger ones than him so I beleave he could be a young one. They morning the pic. was taken we had a freeze warning so the dog and cats were inside. I am more concerened about them not being able to roam outside of the run. I feel bad that they are always in the run, but I just don't want to risk loosing them.

Hi, not sure about where you live, but I put a rubber rattlesnake on the top of my ducks pen when they were little. I propped up it's head and tail like it was thinking of striking and the hawks left them alone in that area.
