Looked Like a Hen {graphic pic}

In the Brooder
I frequently take in backyarders 2 yr old pets that stop laying. I let them free range and weed and many start laying every other day so it's good. Some don't so after a couple of month I process them.
Did up a couple today and this one had a Surprise. I have no idea as to it's parentage.

Not the best picture but too late now.

No ovaries there.

Does this happen often ?

Hi,

Like you said, it does look like a hen.

Now, my friend has a lot of hens and 10 roosters. She had a pair of the most beautiful colored hens up until nearly one year old. Now one of them is a rooster. Well looks like a rooster and crows like one, but 'it' still looks like a hen. This bird has tried to 'mate' with other girls too. It is most odd.

Maybe this is what has happened here.

I am not joking either.

This one acted like a hen for the last 9 weeks and was told when I got it that it was over 2 years old. Just curious.

Curious. I just lost one of my girls and sent her off for necropsy. She was definintely a hen, but at 11 months old had never laid an egg. She basically had ovarian tissue but no developed ovary where her ovary should have been. So I guess these things do happen. Do you know if your girl was ever a layer?
