Hey do u no if u can sex chicks at birth by color I have a light Sussex roo over hyline hens

Only auto sexing breeds can be sexed by color at birth. (Barred Rocks are one example) Other then that they have to be vent sexed which should only be done by professionals.

what color of hyline? I believe hylines are sex-linked hybrids, so if you have the brown types, the sex linking doesn't go to the next generation. I think.

No. The hens are not barred so you can't do black sex links. The Light Sussex rooster is not gold and the hens are not silver so you cannot make red sex links.

The Hyline hens should be red sex links. Once you use a certain cross to create red sex links you cannot use the offspring to create more red sex links. The genetics are not set up right once you make that cross. The same is true for black sex links or sex linked feather sexing.
