Looking for a .22 Handgun. Help?

There you go! I was surprised I hadn't seen anybody recommend the Mark III and then, last post, there it is. I second that.

If you are interested in a .22 for defense, you are right, it isn't much of a man stopper, but loaded with some CCI Stingers or CCI Velocitors, they can do some damage and they will definitely take out varmints. Just be sure you get some instruction in both shooting and self-defense, including coverage of laws related to use of deadly force.

The best handgun I ever owned was a 10.MM.DH bought for me a few year's ago.Im a very small person and stuff and seemed a bit big but....he bought cause he worked night's then and being as secluded as We are, wanted me to have something handy. We found after a couple years was the best kill for coons etc..22's arent really effective unless you a are good shot. The animals suffer a lot any some can just walk away with no effect at all much.I had to sell my 10MM last year and hubby sold some really good rifles good for critter's. and right now only have .22 LR and a 54R which I can barely lift baaaaaaa. So hoping to get another pistol and another rifle here cause the fox are starting again.

Hollow points will do much more damage. They will also reduce the risk of "over penetration" which is where the bullet goes all the way through and could possibly hit something you do not want it to hit.

I am not a big fan of the 22, hand or long. dh has a cheap old junk one with no maker name. he is an extrodinary shot and still it takes at least 3 or 4 shots for large groundhogs.

I had asked my father to borrow one of his handguns when the neighbors dogs went nuts and got out of hand. and his answer was to take a baseball bat and beat the dogs to death

22's have very little stopping power on people. They have a high degree of OMG they have a gun run. If I got shot with one I doubt I would keep advancing to get shot again even if it only hit a big toe. Stay away from the jennings 22. While the judge with 410 loads isn't alot of recoil neither is a 9mm. If you aren't comfortable with a 9 you probably won't be with a 410 pistol. The rugers are good guns and as accurat as you'll get for the price. The single sixes are decent and have the advantage of shooting 22 mag also if you get the convertible model. Smith and wesson makes an accurate double action revolver if you don't like the feel of the single action grips on the single six.

I own two 22 handguns, one is a revolver made by Heritage Arms. They are an American company and it seems to be a pretty nice gun. Shoots both 22 and 22magnum shells. It is pretty loud when shooting the mags. Cost less that $200. The other one is a Ruger semi auto target pistol. It shoots very accurately has a 10 shot clip, and has no kick at all. It cost around $250. Both are fine for plinking or dispatching varmits. I just enjoy shooting the revolvers more.
