Does anyone know where I might find a USED brooder heater, something like a Brinsea brooder heater? I have my first eggs incubating and if all goes well we should hatch after Thanksgiving.

Hello!

Why not just buy yourself a heat lamp and bulb from the farm store. They're very inexpensive. I think they're about $10.00, and heat bulbs run about $5.00.

Thanks chicmom. I would prefer a brooder heater because heat lamps are a considerable fire risk and I will be brooding these chicks in my garage. I have a number of heat lamps which I do use briefly after bathing horses and always under close supervision.

I'm just hoping someone might have a used one for sale.

I used a heat lamp, but bought a ceramic heat bulb for it. The ceramic bulbs are flat and don't stick out from under the heat shield at all, so even if it fell over it shouldn't make contact with anything. Plus, I chose 150W to save power and to lessen the risk of fire.
